Glass, renowned for its luminosity, added a touch of brilliance to the mosaic designs. Artists also sought after rare stones like marble and onyx to introduce unique textures and colors into their artworks. These precious materials were meticulously hand-cut and arranged to form intricate patterns, a testament to the skill and dedication of the ancient artisans.

The use of glass and imported stones in mosaics showcased the wealth and sophistication of the patrons commissioning these artworks. Pompeii is the world's only remaining Roman city, which was preserved under ash for centuries.

It is open to the public most of the year. I recently spent a day there and was fascinated with all the Roman artifacts. A guided tour is recommended as it is a vast space.
